Salisbury Steak: Crock Pot

Sunday is our day for crock pot dinners. It's so nice to come home from church and not have to worry about making dinner because it's already ready!  Plus I'm always hungry after church so it's nice having a nice big dinner ready to go.  I don't have a lot of crock pot recipes but am slowly finding more I like. Do you have any you like?

I came across this recipe a few months ago.  It looked really good. I was really happy with how it turned out.  Derek really liked it too so last time I made it I doubled it so he'd be sure to have something to eat for lunch during the week.

It does take a little prep time in the morning but it's worth it and makes for a nice dinner.  It calls for canned mushrooms, I'm not usually a fan of mushrooms but I really like them in this recipe.  We love to eat it with mashed potatoes because the salisbury steak's are in the crock pot with plenty of gravy but you could also eat it with rice or noodles.

Also you can finish off this recipe in the oven if you don't want to use the crock pot.

Salisbury Steak
Recipe slightly adapted from Mommy's Kitchen
Ingredients:
1 lb Lean Ground Beef
1/3 Cup Bread Crumbs or Saltine cracker crumbs
½ tsp Salt
¼ tsp Pepper
1 Egg
Small Onion Sliced
1 Can Condensed Beef Broth (or 2 cups water + 2 beef bouillon cubes)
1 – 4oz Can Sliced Mushrooms (Drained)
2 T. Cornstarch
2 T Water
1 - Packet Brown Gravy Mix or 1 - Jar/Can Brown Gravy

Directions:
Mix first 5 ingredients together and shape into ovals about ¾ inches thick. Cook patties in a skillet turning once until brown. Add onion, mushrooms and beef broth heat to boiling. Reduce heat cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove patties to a casserole dish or crock pot and keep warm.

Heat mixture until boiling. Mix water and cornstarch together to make a paste. Add to boiling mixture with a wire whisk and whisk until gravy begins to thicken.  Prepare packet of brown gravy mix according to package directions and add to the beef broth gravy.  Pour the gravy over the patties in the casserole dish and bake at 350 until bubbly. If preparing this in the crock pot just add the browned patties to the crockpot. Prepare gravy accordingly and pour on top. Cover and cook for 3 hours on low. Serve with rice, mashed potatoes or noodles.
