DIY Taco Seasoning

I love tacos and use taco seasoning often. A little over a year ago I was about to make tacos when I realized I didn't have any taco seasoning.  That's when I discovered the most amazing homemade taco seasoning.  The recipe comes from Alton Brown from the Food Network. I love him!  Well since making my own taco seasoning I haven't used a store bought mix since!  And my taste buds are sure happy.  The flavor from this is so much better than anything I'd ever had before!

Now when I make it I make 4 batches at a time. It's less work and then I have it around when I need it.

It's nothing fancy but I keep each in a labeled zip lock bag. If you want to use something cuter you can certainly use a small jar. I just don't have any.

Use this taco seasoning to replace a taco seasoning packet in any recipe.

Here are some of my favorite recipes I use this taco seasoning in:

DIY Taco Seasoning
Slightly adapted from Alton Brown
Ingredients:
2 Tbsp. chili powder
1 Tbsp. ground cumin
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
optional: 1 teaspoon ground coriander

Directions:
Put all ingredients in a small jar or small zip lock bag and shake to combine. Store in an airtight container.

To make tacos: Brown 1 lb. ground beef and drain fat.  Add the taco seasoning and 1/2 a cup of water. Simmer until liquid has thickened.

Yield: 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons
