Mickey Mouse Invitations

Stay up to date on my newest posts by following Love to be in the Kitchen on Facebook or Pinterest!

Levi turned 3 last week!  He had a wonderful birthday but he especially enjoyed his Mickey Mouse birthday party. I had a lot of fun planning it for him. The first thing I did to get ready for the party was to make these Mickey Mouse invitations. He loved it and every time I was working on it he would scream, "Mickey Mouse! My birthday's coming up!" He was so excited! I just loved it.

I was inspired by the Mickey Mouse invitations from these two websites: Oopsey Daisy and Embellishing Life

Here is my tutorial. It was pretty simple and I loved how it turned out! So cute!

What you need:
Black Cardstock
White Cardstock
Red Cardstock
Glue
Glue Stick
Scissors
(optional: 1 inch circle cutter or white buttons and glue dots)

1.  Google Mickey head template and pick your favorite. I used this one. Copy and paste it into a Word document and make it the size you want then print it.  (If you print it out on white cardstock it makes it easier to trace.) Cut it out then trace it on black cardstock and cut that out. Continue until you have as many as you need.

2.  Using Word, type up your text, format it how you'd like it, and print on white cardstock. To help me fit the words nicely within a circle I went to Insert then Shapes and added a circle, made it the size I wanted it and typed the words within the circle. I fit 2 to a page. For the words Hot Dog and Mickey Mouse Party I used the font Minnie which you can download for free here. For the other font I used Cinnamon Cake which you can also download for free here.

Once that is printed out cut out the circles and use a glue stick to stick it to the black Mickey head.

3. To make the pocket for the invites (Mickey's shorts) make a half circle that is slightly bigger than the bottom of the Mickey head.  If you are good at free hand you can trace it, if you are like me and aren't good at free hand you can find something round like a cereal bowl and use that to help you trace.  Next cut it out and use that piece to trace the rest. You will need 2 per invitation. And I was able to trace 3 to a page.

4. Once all your red half circles are cut out, line the outside with glue like this picture and place another half circle on top and let dry. Continue with all the half circles until finished.

5. To make the button I used the scraps from the white cardstock I used for the invites.  Using my 1 inch circle cutter and this other cutter to create slits. If you don't have a circle cutter you can either trace circles or print off circles and cut those out. And you could just use a thin black marker to create the button holes or slits.

6. Glue the paper circles to the red pocket. If you'd like to use real buttons use white ones and use glue dots to attach them to the pockets.

And there you go!  A super cute and fun Mickey Mouse invite!

  3. I'm glad I could help! My circle was about 5.5 inches in diameter. But you'll need to make room for the ears.

I didn't mail mine. If I were you I would buy the envelopes first then fit your invites to the envelopes. You can buy envelopes at about any office store and even at the Post Office. Hope all goes well!
